How to read the result

Total depth = instrument depth + chosen bench allowance. Area in square feet = width × total depth ÷ 144, rounded to one decimal. One foot is 12 inches, so one square foot is 144 square inches. The rectangle does not include extra side clearance, doors, cables or a delivery route.

For example, 60 inches wide × (18 inches deep + 30 inches bench allowance) gives a 60 × 48 inch rectangle, or 20 square feet. Verify measurements against your instrument, stand and room.

Before choosing a piano

  1. Check the assembled width and depth including the stand.
  2. Try the bench position and leave space to move it.
  3. Measure delivery access and check carton dimensions.
  4. Check pedal and cable routes without blocking a doorway.
